Designs By Miss Cherry

Cristal Cherry-LeBel is a Calgary based designer and maker. Self taught by instinct, she discovered a passion for creating early on, in particular for sewing.

After graduating from the Apparel Technology and Costume Cutting programs at Olds College, she honed in on her skills, taking pride in quality and technique. From constructing heavy duty sports mascots, to piecing together the most delicate bridal dresses, she has gained vast experience. Her work has been featured on the MakeFashion runway, from the Beakerhead stage in Calgary all the way to the international Maker Faire in Xi’an.

She has shown her creations at important charity events including the Avant Guard Gala, in support of the Calgary Women's Shelter and the MS Winter Gala fundraiser. More recently, her pieces have been showcased on stages built for environmental awareness. The Seattle Recycled Arts fashion show had a focus on zero waste, reducing what is destined for landfills while the Future Oceans fashion show targeted the plastic pollution crisis our oceans are facing.

As a Future Oceans ambassador, it is her mission to spread awareness to the decline in ocean health and to the crucial role we all play in ocean preservation. Creating clothing, accessories and art in small batches, her work hinges on the importance of sustainability within the industry. Using artistry, and the “reclaim” mentality, she hopes to evoke, encourage and inspire an earth conscious world.
