Curatorial Statement
Future Oceans International is thrilled to invite the public to a groundbreaking exhibition that seamlessly combines art, history, and environmental activism. "Tides are Changing," presented by the Victoria International Marina, is a thought-provoking journey that takes you from the luxury of pearls and other precious materials as a symbol of wealth, to the urgent need for ocean conservation.
The exhibition also showcases high fashion accessories that highlight the current crisis of ocean plastic waste and the impact it has on our oceans. By presenting these interconnected issues in one space, the exhibition aims to inspire action and raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and ocean conservation.
The Nanaimo Contemporary Ballet will perform a breathtaking ballet inspired by the exhibition's themes. The performance will showcase the beauty and fragility of our oceans and the urgent need for conservation. It is a perfect example of how art can inspire and create change.
One of the essential highlights of the exhibition is the use of ocean plastic from The Ocean Legacy Foundation in crafting some of the jewelry pieces. This unique approach creates a striking contrast between genuine precious and natural materials and discarded plastic. It serves as a call to action, urging everyone to take responsibility for their actions and reduce plastic waste.
With an impressive lineup of artists, including fashion designers showcased in the Future Oceans International runway, and award-winning conceptual jewelers, this exhibition promises to be a one-of-a-kind experience that you won't want to miss. Join us on July 1st, 2023, and be a part of the movement to create a sustainable future for our oceans.
